Speed-Racing Machines:

Venturi Fetish
This 300-horsepower electric sports car is expected to launch next year, after numerous delays. It costs a breathtaking €297,000 (about $415,000) and goes 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Tesla Roadster
The 248-horsepower Roadster, which came out last year, goes 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and starts at a cool $101,500. Tesla Motors' second car, the Model S, is expected to cost $49,900 when it comes out in 2011. But the discount comes with slower acceleration. The Model S will take 5.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, Tesla says.

Chevrolet Volt
General Motors claims its bankruptcy will have no affect on the much-anticipated Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid expected to hit the streets in 2010. Unlike a traditional hybrid vehicle, the Volt is propelled only by its electric motor, with its internal combustion engine helping to charge the batteries. It's expected to have a 40-mile all-electric range and could get rated at more than 100 mpg.
